The Art of Listening
The Art of Listening examines the reasons listening is an underdeveloped skill for many people. The program begins with a self analysis exercise to determine one’s competency as a listener. Upon completion attendees will be able to:
- Identify the benefits of becoming a better listener
- Describe the potential blocks to effective listening
- Discuss how silence pertains to effective listening
- Explain how prejudices impede listening
- Put into action four steps to become a better listener
Al Arens has a BSEE degree from General Motors Institute of Technology (now known as Kettering University). He had a successful sales and sales management career in the Electrical Wholesaling Industry. Presently he is the president of Life Enhancing Programs, LLC, a training and consulting company.
Al has participated in many learning experiences which include the following:
- Adjunct Instructor – Davenport University – 1996 thru 2001
- Dale Carnegie Graduate Assistant Instructor
- Served 4 years on Michigan State Electrical Administrative Board
- Awarded Life Time Membership – National Association of Electrical Distributors
- Certified Instructor – Zig Ziglar’s “See You at the Top†Course
- Chartered a Toastmasters Club in Alma, 2001
- Achieved DTM (Distinguished Toastmasters Award)
- Ambassador Gratiot Area Chamber of Commerce
- Authored the book, Integrity – Balancing Body, Mind and Spirit Publisher and distributor of the book Think On Your Feet – The Art of Thinking and Speaking Under Pressure by Ken Wydro
- Served as City Councilperson – City of St. Louis, MI 1988 – 1991
- Graduate – McGrane Self-Esteem Institute – Cincinnati, OH
- Married 43 years to Alberta, 3 children, 6 grandchildren
