Annual Meeting & Dinner: Teaching Across the Generations
An important transition is taking place in today’s workplace. The Baby Boomer generation, which has long dominated most aspects of organizational life, is nearing retirement. To fill their shoes, organizations are focusing on recruiting, retaining, and engaging younger workers. But these workers come to the office with a seemingly unique set of attitudes, skills, values, and beliefs regarding work, and little regard for older employees who have “paid their dues.†It is not surprising then that generational differences have become a hot topic for many organizations.
Join Ned Wellman, PhD Student at the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business and your local ASTD Chapter at its annual meeting event at the Lansing Sheridan Hotel. Have dinner, network with other learning professionals and learn more about this very hot and timely topic. In this session….
- we will explore how generational dynamics impact training and development programs
- We will talk about our own age-based experiences and challenges.
- We will review research conducted by both academic and non-academic sources which has identified age-based differences that are relevant to training.
- We will discuss the role of stereotypes and self fulfilling prophecy in perpetuating generational conflict.
- And we will generate a list of actionable suggestions for applying the concepts we discuss to your own training and development work
